  • Holders of the MCA/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate, accompanied by a commercial endorsement, are empowered to skipper a commercial yacht <200 gt, navigating up to 150 miles from a safe haven day or night.
  • This certificate stands as a significant accomplishment for individuals aspiring to embark on a career in yachting and for recreational sailors seeking to broaden their knowledge and enhance their skippering proficiency. Those holding the MCA/RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate can pursue opportunities as instructors or progress further within the MCA merchant scheme.
  • The preparation phase spans 5 intensive days, encompassing a journey from Athens to the Saronic Islands, led by experienced Yachtmaster instructors catering to sailors with a profound theoretical understanding. Throughout the preparation, your instructor will provide targeted coaching to address any knowledge gaps and refine your skills.
  • Following the preparation, the exam extends over 8 to 12 hours per candidate, occurring in Athens. Candidates are tasked with showcasing a comprehensive spectrum of existing knowledge and skippering capabilities, marking the culmination of their Yachtmaster Offshore journey.

Pre-Course
Experience
  • 2500 miles
  • At least 5 passages over 60 miles measured along the rhumb line from the port of departure to the destination, acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved overnight passages
  • 5 days experience as skipper
  • At least half this mileage and passages must be conducted in tidal waters

* All qualifying sea time must be within 10 years prior to the exam
