- Objective: The ICC Preparation & Assessment course for sail is tailored for individuals aiming to enhance skills, broaden knowledge, and build confidence to safely skipper a yacht.
Focus Areas:
- Yacht Handling Techniques: Comprehensive training on yacht handling techniques under both sail and power.
- Skippering Skills Development: Collaborative efforts to nurture and develop your skippering abilities.
- Practical Experience: Engage in practical activities such as passage planning, navigation, organizing night sails, and taking charge as a skipper.
Tuition Yachts Ready for Accommodation:
- Sunday Midday: The tuition yachts are prepared for accommodation, ensuring a seamless start to your training week.
Course Structure:
Day One: Join the yacht, meet the crew, and receive a briefing on yacht basics and surroundings from the instructor. An opportunity to discuss course details follows.
Monday to Friday: The course unfolds from our Mikrolimano Athens base, covering a minimum of 100 nautical miles around the Saronic / Aegean islands. Daily routines include lunch and swim stops in picturesque bays, with nights spent in diverse destinations like Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Epidavros.
Cultural Exploration:
- Local Culture and Cuisine: Evenings in different destinations allow exploration of the vibrant local culture and cuisine.
Assessment and Certification:
- Saturday Morning: The assessment takes place, starting from our Lefkada base and concluding by midday. Successful completion results in a signed ICC assessment form provided by your instructor.
Participant Expectations:
- Theory Knowledge: Participants are expected to have the requisite theory knowledge, equivalent to Day Skipper theory level.
- Theory and Navigation Coaching: While the course prioritizes practical aspects, the instructor will coach and guide participants to bridge any theory or navigation gaps.
Embark on a 6-day practical journey, combining navigation, chartwork, and sailing to prepare for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) assessment. The course offers a holistic approach, blending skill development with cultural exploration in the stunning Saronic / Aegean islands.

- INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION
Embark on a sailing adventure in the Ionian by joining our tuition yacht alongside fellow enthusiasts. This unique experience combines learning with leisure as you share the yacht with a maximum of four other students, plus the instructor. The package includes provisions for breakfast and lunch, covering all yacht expenses. Accommodation may be shared, and saloon berths may be utilized to maximize space.

Tailored for small groups of friends and families aspiring to master the art of sailing together, private tuition offers an exclusive experience. You won’t share the yacht with others, ensuring a personalized journey with your dedicated instructor. Opt to charter a coded vessel from our fleet, allocate a cabin for your instructor, and seamlessly blend training with a holiday ambiance. Please note that fuel, provisions, the cost of the instructor’s meals, and mooring fees are not included in the price.
What is the ICC?
The ICC (International Certificate of Competence) is the minimum required qualification you need to have in order to charter a yacht in many European countries including Greece.
The full title of the ICC is International Certificate of Competence for operators of pleasure craft and it is a certificate which is intended to provide evidence of competence when requested by the authorities.
The ICC is the only sailing licence approved by the United Nations as a legitimate recreational sailing licence.
The ICC cannot be commercially endorsed and should never be used as evidence of competence for commercial activities.
Acceptance of the ICC

Who can get an ICC ?
The RYA CANNOT issue an ICC to nationals of the following countries: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine
If you are a national of one of the countries above then you should be able to obtain an ICC from your own government provided you are able to meet their requirements for evidence of your competence to drive a pleasure craft.
The RYA CAN issue an ICC to nationals of the following countries: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, Russian Federation, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tajikistan, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United States of America, Uzbekistan
